ABOUT US:
Himalayan Trade and Tour is owned by Monique Garfinkel and Kishor Shrestha. Kishor is a resident of Kathmandu, Nepal where he had been a tour guide in the region for 17 years. Kishor has also been procuring antiquities for collectors for many years.
Kishor recently spent some time in Berkeley Springs, helping to open the store and then returned to Nepal to be with his family. We recently obtained approval for a work visa and it is hoped that Kishor will be able to bring his family to Berkeley Springs soon.
Monique and Mark Garfinkel have a residence in Berkeley Springs, WV, although they are still transitioning from the WDC area where Mark Garfinkel works for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). OPIC is a developmental financial institution that supports overseas investments in 160 developing countries through loans, guarantees and insurance.
It was on a business trip overseas that he met Kishor and was fortunate to be invited to meet his family at the time. Two years later when Kishor came to the US as a tourist, the two caught up with each other and it was decided to launch HTT. Kishor has a number of relatives in Kathmandu in the cargo/freight business and this has helped HTT in many ways.
